sometimes you just need a ride to clear your head

The reggaeton being piped through the walls is loud and aggressive. There's so many kids here. Probably a Sunday lunch thing. Two couples are striking up a conversation about Biblical marriage. I'm close and forced to eavesdrop. Religion is prevalent and unapologetic in this part of the country. I was supposed to be at church for lunch, but I've done too much Christian smiling and nodding lately. I wanted a break from it. Didn't get one.

Hanging out with a family of competitive athletes is wild

A lot to say about this weekend. Corey and Ella got married in a park and held the potluck-style reception at the church. It was colorful and laid back and full of smiling faces. Hanging at Shayla and Kellen's place is delightful as always, full of laughter and music and silly storytelling, and meaningful one-on-ones. Singing John Mayer while doing a Goofy impression will never not be funny. I got a gnarly sunburn at the beach, and was christened the Boogie King because I just got in the zone with the boogie board and kept doing it over and over for an hour. In truth, I was just enjoying the water and the sunshine too much. It felt almost meditative to be out there. I could see myself learning to surf if I stuck around. Church service on Sunday was interesting. Contemplative, conversational, explorative, unconventional. Hippie church! Not quite what I grew up around.
